Charities

The Irish Discworld Convention is a not-for-profit event, which means that all profits beyond what we need to organise the next convention are donated to charity. On top of this, we also host several fundraising events (most notably our grand Charity Auction).

We are delighted to announce the chosen charities for the 2025 Irish Discworld Convention are the The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Irish Wheelchair Association, and Children's Books Ireland.

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland has been supported by IDWCon ever since our first Convention in 2009 – not just due to the “embuggerance” itself, but also because The ASI are the leading dementia-specific service provider in Ireland. The charity works across the country in the heart of local communities, providing dementia-specific services and supports and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers. We know that this is cause close to all of our hearts.

Irish Wheelchair Association is one of Ireland’s leading representative organisations and service providers for people with physical disabilities. They were founded on the belief that everyone should be able to live a life of choice and equality. IDWCon have always and will always strive to make our convention accessible and inclusive, because, well, we love seeing you all there!

Children's Books Ireland is the national charity and arts organisation that champions every child’s right to develop a love of reading. We can only guess that you're here because you love books (or at least a specific sub-section of books), so we want to support this charities efforts to introduce the magical world of books to children all across Ireland!

We come together at Discworld Conventions to meet and have fun and celebrate the works of our beloved Terry, but one of the most satisfying aspects of the cons is that we can make a real contribution while having fun. So please join us in digging deep (if you can) throughout the weekend to help support these wonderful causes.
